An Architect and Photographer Bring Their Skillsets to Their Own Space

Architect Gustavo Silva and photographer Logan Havens of Silva + Havens design studio were renovating their riverside adobe farmhouse in Tucson, Arizona. Throughout his professional experience, Gustavo has always admired VOLA products and specified them in projects worldwide. On a trip to Amsterdam, the duo met Monique at the VOLA showroom. She pointed them to Hastings for their US-based project needs as they embarked on a major renovation.

Years of Neglect Hide Good Bones

CHALLENGES

The structure had decayed, there were huge holes in the walls, and the flooring was either mud-packed or concrete. The pair saw the potential of this special space and undertook an intensive renovation, stripping the home and replacing all of the adobe. Given the riverside location of the home, they wanted the design to have a clear connection to the experience of water—fixture selection was an important decision. They also wanted to have the lightest touch possible with design details, which is why they were drawn to the simplicity and thoughtful nature of VOLA fixtures. With an eye for minimalism and a desire for an elevated aesthetic, VOLA seemed like a natural fit.

At Monique’s recommendation, Gustavo and Logan introduced themselves and the home renovation project to the Hastings team. One of our sales representatives, Jennifer, got to know the pair and gained a better understanding of their goals for the renovation. 

Although the pair already knew exactly what fixtures they wanted following their visit to the VOLA showroom in Amsterdam, Jennifer provided valuable guidance about the product specifications and walked them through the process of configuring the modular elements to personalize their fixtures to best suit their vision for the space. She then guided them step-by-step through the proposal process to make sure they got exactly what they envisioned.

Hastings, being well-versed in the installation of VOLA products, rushed the valves and hardware that needed to be embedded in the walls early in the construction process.

The renovation turned out better than expected, with the kitchen design process being more seamless than the pair had anticipated. They love everything about their VOLA fixtures and the timeless design that will endure for generations to come.

THE FUTURE

AWARD-WINNING DESIGN for the ages

Gustavo and Logan are working on a new project together. They have designed an adobe accessory dwelling unit (ADU) modeled after their renovated riverside home. They even won a Tucson design competition! Just like their own house, these new ADUs will have VOLA fixtures incorporated into the design.

It was a very positive experience going to VOLA, and then it felt like the experience felt very similar, going from this high-quality product to this high-quality distributor. It just felt relatively seamless across the board.
